BIOGRAPHY Born: Oct. 25, 1943 , Porterville, California, USA Over the next months, I will place paintings I have done over the years. Only the most recent ones were painted with my discovery and formulations of the revolutionary grinding oil and method known as the " CALCITE SUN OIL/ EMULSIONS" method. As a kid in elementary school, I began drawing by copying the cartoon characters of my day. Andy Panda, Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Mighty Mouse and others. As I got older, I was attracted to pictures of horse, cows and nature, but always continued to draw cartoons. When I was 10, my mother bought us a full set of World Book Encyclopedia/ Children's version. I discovered all the greatest painters and they became my guides, as I wanted to paint like them. I began to oil paint in 1956, when I was about 13. I studied the books and articles of the famous artist and art educator, Mr. Frederic Taubes ( 1900-1981). I followed his advice and used his solvent, resin drier based method that used industrially produced linseed oil. There was no other method for me or any one else to follow. I am happy my studies and discoveries, described in my book are changing that. For information on my book see my website : www.calcitesunoil.com My paintings document of my life as a person and a painter. My cartoon character , BUDDY BURRO, " America's Happiest Donkey", is happy donkey with a message. My paintings show the many subjects I enjoy painting :Biblical, Mexican culture, Nature, Mythology, Still life and more.

A CSO painting..detail. The painting is approximately 4 X 5 feet

The butterfly is a close up detail of a 24"X30" painting. It is also a CSO painting.

NO, the photo is not out of focus. i purposefully painted some areas in fine clear detail and other areas were made blurry on purpose as a stylistic choice. Personally, I do not have the patience to paint a full painting in never ending details.

ANOTHER CSO painting also 30"X24"

Another CSO painting My parents emigrated to the USA from Mexico in 1921. I love my bicultural identity. The food, the music, the language, the ancient history of the FIRST AMERICANS that Mexicans are. Mexico has thousands of indigenous cultures spanning more than 15,000 years in the Americas. OIL ON WOOD 24"X18" A closeup is below

Thats me in the NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art, with the famous portrait of Juan De Pareja, by the great 17th century master, Diego Rodriguez de Silva Y Velazquez (1599-1661). February in NYC was COLD!

I LOVE WHAT MODERN ART GAVE US... FREEDOM! No longer must we paint like any ' teacher" tells us, like the "French Academic Academy", like any one who tries to cut your personal wings of intuitive aesthetic sensitivity... so you can paint like THEM! Their criteria of aesthetics is only for them... and not to be imposed on anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. This is a CSO painting... it follows my intuitive use of TRIANGES in visual art that I abruptly saw one day in the work of 17th century master, EL GRECO. I call this adapted, and now modernist style TRIANGULARISM. SIZE: 24" X 18" oil on wood

Another CSO painting. This one took about 6 hours, over 2 days. It was a one-two operation. The background is the actual charcoal drawing, left exposed. SIZE: 30" X 24" Oil on Wood

The whole Butterfly painting 24"x30" oil on wood

A CSO painting on wood, 24" X 30" This represents the peace dove struggling with the wind tempest of moral decline. The peace Olive trees are also buffeted, but they remain standing. The red signifyies the blood of innocent victims of crime and wars.

ONE of my favorite pencil drawings. A combination of influences. GRUENWALD, the 16th century German master is seen in the twisted body of Christ, Mexican culture is seen by the Cacti..and MODERNISM in the totally reconstructed emotional Wooden cross. FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION as I want it to be. Some are really impacted by the torture of the figure. It flies against the white Anglo-Saxon Germanic appearing blonde handsome Christ of European culture. The historical Jesus of Nazareth was a Middle Eastern person in appearance. I took liberty as have others to make Him my way. This drawing is titled ' MEXICAN CHRIST". size 40" X 30" date: 1980 Pencil on Heavy paper

A CSO painting,l on wood, 18" by 24" I did four of these paintings in a period. Each one a little different, and each one led to the other. You could call it a 'series'. I used the same face of the cute girl in this second painting that is seen in the first painting, above . The third in the series is on wood, a CSO painting, and 24" X 30" Ill post the fourth painting soon

ADAM AND EVE Oil on Wood , 24"X18" This is a detail of the painting. Science tells us humans began in Africa, and migrated to all parts of the world from that origin. I have painted Eve in the foreground, and Adam in the background of the garden of Eden.

SALVADOR DALI is one of my favorite painters. His surrealism makes me see 'real' things that are ' unreal'. The Title of this oil on wood, size 18"X24" is "LA PALOMA", meaning, "THE DOVE", because in the olive tree where two branches cross, you find a white dove pondering the scene. The small olive tree in the middle has a skull in the root system.

MADRE MEXICANA = Mexican Mother" Oil on Canvas, 40"X30" , year 2000. This is a portrait of my friend Pablo who loves Mexico. He was born deep in the jungle to an Indigenous mother. I painted a symbolic ancient Mexican woman with her young child, yet the head of the child is Pablo's adult face. The painting tries to portray the physical hardship of giving birth. Even the moons edges are fractured as are the trees.

THE BLACK HORSE Oil on Canvas, about 40" X 50". This CSO painting was inspired by the Art made in the USA during the Great Depression of 1929. The difficult economic period was especially hard on artists and the US Federal government stepped and created the WPA , Works Progress Administration. Free of worry, the artists created a fine body of American art that reflected the newest influences from Europe as well as reflecting pride in the American scene. |
